The Centre for Ethics in Practice (ETIK) frames the research of application-oriented ethics at Aalborg University. The main focus is on the ethical frontiers where new problems have turned up caused by significant changes during the latest decades.
The centre has the objective of establishing a forum of integration of ethics and science, and to make it possible to make ethical teaching at the university research-based. The research of the centre aims to:
- develop and evaluate ethical arguments – with a special focus on new frontiers of ethics
- perform ethical surveys of current ethical approaches – especially in areas loaded with difficult and controversial issues
- evaluate, develop and test ethical decision making procedures
- record long term development of ethical issues
The centre also aims to act as a network partner for both industry and organizations and hereby to contribute to the development of public regulation of ethical policy or of specific profession codices.
Centre for Ethics in Practice are proud to announce that Professor Søren Holm, Centre for Ethics in Practice, Aalborg University, and the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy, School of Law, University of Manchester, UK, has been nominated as the new President of the International Association of Bioethics.
The International Association of Bioethics is the largest international academic association within bioethics. IAB arranges a world congress every second year, and has held congresses on all continents, except Antartctica. This year the twelfth world congress is held in Mexico City 25-28 June 2014, where Professor Søren Holm will give his ”Presidential Address”.
